Daydream of Nightmares by Serum
From the opening track of Miami bred MC Serum’s nine track EP, Daydream of Nightmares, to the last; the title matches the vibe given from the project. The production on it is dark, suspenseful, and even slightly demonic sounding at times. It is easy to close your eyes while listening to this and envision something out of the Walking Dead or Michael Carpenter’s Halloween. When coupled with Serum’s deep sometimes creepy sounding voice and his dark twisted lyrical content and you get a near perfect combination for the horrorcore style of rap that Serum definitely thrives at.
Top Tracks:
The Peep Hole – The perfect opening track for this project. The beat is suspenseful enough to pique the interest of listener’s and thorough enough to keep them listening until the end. Serum really shines through lyrically on this track painting a picture
I Might As Well – Sometimes Serum’s rhyming ability can get lost in between the surprisingly good production on this project and his unique delivery, but on this track his flow is definitely top notch.
At the End of Dreams – A great climatic posse track featuring LMS and Oz Ark Raider.
This is definitely a project that is different from anything that you will hear from anyone else, but that turns out to be a good thing. If you are a fan of horror movies or anime you will most definitely appreciate the production value as it weaves together to make the listening experience seem more like a film experience highlighted by twisted yet deep tales from Serum.
