Event Recap: Listening Session For Psychotic (11/07/2015)

IMG_0475Last week, myself and a good friend Elisha Gomez attended a listening session for a local artist named Psychotic. The event took place in Manhattan lot lounge walking distance from Madison Square Garden. The party was intimate; all together there was no more than 25-30 people in attendance (majority of who were close friends and family with the artist). At the event for media coverage there was me representing NikkiSiixx and a contributor for Buzzfeed. This was fine with me since I was able to get an exclusive look at talented artist before the masses (potentially) does.

After giving the party goers a couple hours to enjoy the free drinks (provided by Kerby Kups) and music, the man of the night came out and started performing cuts from the recently released mixtape titled Here’s My Resume. I watched as the majority of the crowd rapped along with him word for word, thanks to them I was able to follow the lyrics (the sound wasn’t great from the equipment). Of course I wanted to listen with an open ear, and I enjoyed each song more than the last one.

After the performance was over, I was able to use my blog privileges to converse with Psychotic. Here are a few takeaways from our conversation.
• He has been rapping since he was eight years old, didn’t write a rap until he was 14 years old.
• Formally used the name Champ E, Sinister, Psychotic Rapper before finally settling on Psychotic.
• He knows his sound doesn’t match his name, he doesn’t mind it.
• Very confident, believes he’s versatile enough to satisfy any music lover.
• In ten years, he sees himself being a star in every sense.
• Believes that the most important actors in reaching success is having a strong self-discipline and believing in yourself no matter what.

All things considered, I feel that the event was a small gathering of people who believe in the talent of a young man with the work ethic to take him places, beautiful sight to see really as no matter what happens, I feel those people will still be with Psychotic wherever he is ten years from now.

Event Recap: MiaJamFest 2015 at LMNT

2ndannualThis passed Saturday, I attended the Second Annual MiaJamFest at LMNT. I would have to say this was over the top compared to last years event. The venue was big enough to fit everyone, a really dope line up of performers, amazing fashion from local fashionistas, and overall a great vibe. MiaJamfest provided a photo booth, vendors to get to know, and gift giveaways from Soles Inc. Man, they even had break-dancing, model runway, large projection screen featuring the talents of the night. Dj Bre killed it with the music he was playing. Shoutout to Webbz, Xali, Lady Llama, and Quest on their bomb ass performances. I have nothing but love for the coordinators of this event Ashley Jones, and her team of women who only work hard. I always have fun at MiaJamFest! If you missed out catch the photos below and if not stay tuned with MiaJamFest for photos/videos to be released.

Event Recap: 11/6 OASIS11 at TSL Lounge

Last Thursday Night, I headed over to The Social Lubricant Lounge in Wynwood for WakeUpStar’s Event. Featuring dope music by DJ Bre, and a great line up of underground hip-hop artists. I just love the environment very chill and laid back. It’s on a patio that allows you to be outside with or without roofing. You’re able to gaze up to the stars. Huge projector playing a live basketball. There’s a bunch of sitting areas, hookah, smoke friendly environment. By the time I got there I was only able to catch 2 performances. I caught Webbz and Xali.

Here are some updates from the performers that night:

@WEBBZCX — We released Medicinal [EP] at the end of September and the response has been overwhelming. It’s approaching 2 months since the release and we’re still keeping the momentum with visuals and behind the scenes footage. This year also marked my first time performing at A3C which was an amazing experience.

My most recent performance at Oasis Eleven’s Street Dreams show was Dope. The venue was amazing and the crowd was receptive to all the performers. It was the perfect platform for an MC to perform. Overall, Street Dreams was a great event.
@NOEXnotonearth — Oasis 11 was a Great venue. Nice to build with like minded individuals. Also the quality of people where good really brought together a diverse crowd all so talented in their own way. Looking forward to more events from Oasis 11 the host and Dj were really on top of they’re game from the introduction of each artist to the music they were playing. Peace to the Host and everyone who had a hand in the event. Need more events like oasis 11.

@MusicByMercy — Tell you the truth, I didn’t know what to expect of the OASIS event. I kinda predicted to be a dope night of great vibes and good energy – and that was the outcome of that night. It was refreshing to be around live art and dope hip hop. A defining moment of clarity. I am just grateful of the opportunity to showcase my talent and connect with others. Huge shoutout to WAKEUPSTAR, SEAN BANG and DJ BRE – and everyone else that help make the night a kodak moment.

@MikeyMarriott — Oasis 11 is bringing real culture to the scene. The music, food, vibe and social setting is a breath of fresh air for Miami nightlife.

@XALIUNKNWN — Being able to perform at oasis 11 was a supreme experience. It is rare that you find promoters and people who use there expertise to influence the culture effectively on a weekly basis. Wakeupstar, AllLikeMinds, and DJ bre have been the catalyst to that with the brand they created with Oasis11 . As a young artist, to be apart of a movement that goes beyond the average soflo limitations of expected vibes is devine . Receieved alot of love from the people, the music by Dj Bre and Sean Bang never died, and got the opportunity to share my art with the people of my city. This Is Definitely something for the culture, Which is one of the main reasons I do music.

Stay tuned for this Thursday next OASIS 11!!!

CraccCobain Recap: Firefly Music Festival (June 18-21 2014)

fireflySummer is a season that’s always well looked forward to especially after long winters. I was honored to start this summer at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE. This a new experience for me and I most say I was impressed. The main act I looked forward to seeing at this festival was Outkast. It has been on my bucket list since I was in second grade to see Outkast perform live so already had me hyped. Then I learned that there were other good hip-hop artists like Vic Mensa, Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino and G-eazy. Vic Mensa had the first hip-hop set early on Friday (June 19th) and put one hell of a show. He has a great stage presence and made sure to interact with the crowd and have everyone dancing. After his set was finished I checked out acts from a few other genres and found a few good acts like the Mowgli’s, arctic monkeys and airborne toxic event. Later that night I say chance the rapper’s set which was good as I expected it to be especially since he was the most talked about artist of the day other than the foo fighters. I finished off Friday by turning up with A-trak and then rocking out to The Foo Fighters. Vic Mensa
Saturday I woke up excited for another day of great music especially since I would be seeing Outkast live by the end of the night. I used my time up until then watching great performances from the likes of twenty one pilots, royal teeth, third eye blind, cage the elephant, walk off the earth and imagine dragons. I stood up for nearly two hours before Outkast was scheduled to start their performance to make sure to have a good spot for their set. That was a brilliant idea because an hour before the performance was scheduled to start you could see faces lined up to watch Outkast for as far back as you can see. Andre 3000 came out wearing the white Stankonia wig and a black jumpsuits with “Children of the Cornbread” written across the front. Outkast Big Boi had on a more simple dickies styled black outfit with a red fitted cap. They ran threw all of their classic joints and stood there reciting all of the lyrics word for word as did a few others around me. They even brought the great Sleepy Brown as they performed songs like “SpottieOttieDopalicious” and “SouthernPlayerlisticCadillacFunkyMuzik”. The show was definitely worth the anticipation.
Sunday was a quite relaxing final day of the festival. I saw G-eazy put on one hell of a show a few hours before releasing his latest project. I also saw sets from wild cub, weezer, the lumineers and ziggy marley. I finished off the weekend by watching childish gambino put on a show that made me earn a new respect for him as an artist. After such an incredible weekend I look forward to going back next summer and definitely recommend you all to join me out there.

Event Recap: A3C Hip-Hop Festival by @CraccCobain

Talib Kweli Miloh Smith Que BOB  The 9th Annual All 3 Coast (A3C) Hip-Hop Festival went on in Atlanta, GA from October 2nd to October 6th and was superb to say the least. The festival was attended by 1000s of hip-hop artists, bloggers, photographers, videographers, clothing designers, film directors, executives and hip-hop fans. The events took place all over Atlanta, Ga from Little 5 Points to the Old 4th Ward. Multiple major label and independent artists were able to showcase their talents in the multiple venues set up through out the city.  I was able to catch some of my favorites like Talib Kweli and Schoolboy Q as well up and comers like Que and Miloh Smith. Along all of the shows, there were also multiple panels and workshops for A3C participants to learn about everything from booking shows to getting paid for song placements in video games. There were numerous opportunities to network and connect with people that you may not have at your disposal on a daily basis. Overall the experience was tremendous both from and artist and blogger aspect and is a trip that I would recommend every artist take at least once.
