[PROJECT REVIEW] Uncle TreY – nostalgianticipation

nostalgianticipationcover

[Monroe Country, PA] Making his return on NikkiSiixx.com, we have hip-hop artist Uncle Trey bringing us his project nostalgianticipation. We recently just featured his singles for MOJO & JUST A SUMMER LOVE, and doing a reaction video to those visuals as well. Uncle TreY has been working non-stop to perfect his latest project. And within the first listen I was already hooked, the thirteen track journey takes us in the perspective of TreY growing up and dealing with obstacles. nostalgianticipation contains a slew of 90’s samples that gives you that nostalgic feel to it.

Here’s a bit of his backstory before we get into the review. Uncle TreY is a Bronx born rapper currently residing in Monroe County, PA. Avoiding being conformed to a specific hip hop genre, he bases his music off of everyday life experiences and creates songs using profound & anomalous concepts. Having garnered a strong buzz on the internet & the local underground scene, he’s now looking to take the next step in hopes of reaching a larger audience… the world.

For nostalgianticipation, I’ll be reviewing my favorite and most stand out tracks on the project. Uncle TreY made it difficult, considering there’s a lot of solid work on it. So far my choices are: Uncle Hyde, Acknowledgement, Lost Cause, Mojo, Just A Summer Love, Excuses, and Just Living.

edit-2-2-2[01. UNCLE HYDE] Instantly, I would say this was the best song on the project and the best way to start it off. With Uncle TreY dealing with his dark side, it sounds like it got the best of him. From the choice of production by TreAces, and the flow Uncle TreY presents. It’s hard not to jam out to this one.

[02. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT] Its time to take notice, Uncle TreY has been working hard towards making it in his music career. People will be hating, and be more in disbelief considering his making it on his own. This track was produced by The Chase.

[05. LOST CAUSE] Even though this track has two songs in it. But I’m really feeling the beginning of it with Lost Cause. Straightjackits is cool, but Lost Cause really caught my attention. Uncle TreY talks on topics about Black Lives Matter and the disruption of politics. Lost Cause has this hard-hitting bass with smooth flow by Uncle TreY.

[08. MOJO] is perfect for the summer time. Uncle TreY talks about how he got his confidence back. He tells us a story how things started and how it turns out, with a specific girl. And how they even try to come back in his life after so long of not communicating with them. The hook is catchy, and has me singing along.

Check out my reaction to the visual to MOJO/JUST A SUMMER LOVE on
[Nikki Hears It First] Episode Nine:

[09. JUST A SUMMER LOVE] takes us back on a summer love he’s reminiscing about someone he hooked up with. Throughout the track Uncle TreY kinda focus on a specific listener, the one who he experienced that love affair with. Uncle TreY’s flow is on point and the content is very descriptive.

[11. EXCUSES] This song blew my mind. The hint of R&B by singer Ballad on the vocals, and Uncle TreY opening up about relationships and some stories. Really gives that 90’s R&B vibe, that you gotta vibe out to this one. I find this track might be a favorite for the lady listeners.

[13. JUST LIVING] Uncle TreY sounds amazing on this track. He’s able to maintain his flow on beat, and is super real with his lyrics. At the moment he’ll be interested but then lose interest. The women may feel confused but those are how things are. With Uncle TreY main focus is his music, the women he’s with might get it twisted. This track gives you a funky late-night production by Gold Haze and Rich Rescigno. Harmonies and hook by the beautiful Mariam.

This concludes my review of Uncle TreY’s nostalgianticipation. For the thirteen track journey, Uncle TreY took us on a ride. The project contains a lot of solid material, good vibes, and tough topics. What did you guys think about nostalgianticipation? Which were your favorite tracks? If you want a free digital copy of nostalgianticipation make sure you go to ItsBetterThanMusic.com. If you’re diggin Uncle TreY as much as I am, make sure you show support and follow him on all his social media.

[EP REVIEW] Jayomega – The Essence

jayomega the essence

[BRONX, NEW YORK] Making his return on NikkiSiixx.com, Jayomega has been non-stop over the last year. With a successful podcast series called “The Officially Street”, making it to episode 52. Also, the last time we featured some music from Jayomega was with It’s My Time single, and he opened up my compilation mixtape NETWERK VOL TEN with SANCTUARY PART II. And when I added him on the POLL: Who Sampled It Better? Kingdom Hearts Utada Hikaru – Sanctuary, in which he won on listeners choice.

Now, he brings us THE ESSENCE EP. The eight track ep is a great way to reintroduce himself to new/old listerners. Here’s what Jayomega had to say about his approach in creating this EP. “I miss the essence of hip hop. I miss the era of the late 90’s and early 2000’s when lyrics, content and conTEXT actually mattered. There was a time when you had to be about what you claimed you were, and you were only respected if you honored the competitive nature of the genre and EARNED your spot by rapping your ass off to get there. It hasn’t been that way in like 8 years, and so I did this EP for those fans/artist who miss that era as well”.

I’ll be reviewing my favorite tracks off the project. My favorite songs are What It Sound Like? Tell Me What You See, Sanctuary Part II, When Love Dies, Let Me Tell You Something, and First 48.

[WHAT IT SOUND LIKE?] I feel that Jayomega, is motivated to not give up. The Essence EP is Jayomega’s tenth independent project release. The voice that was sampled is from Eric Thomas, an inspirational hip-hop speaker. What they used, makes you want to move forward. The production reminds me of late 90’s New York hip-hop track, produced by Syer (Co-Host of The Offically Street Podcast).

[TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE] During the hook Jayomega wants you to close you’re eyes, and open your mind. What do you see? Jayomega takes you to what he’s mind sees. Living life to the fullest and keeping your head up. His flow on the track fits perfectly with the production by Lil BEZ.

[SANCTUARY PART II] Jayomega was inspired by the original song when he first heard it on the opening credits of “Kingdom Hearts 2”, a popular Disney inspired RPG that released for Playstation 2 in 2005. Jayomega originally released “Sanctuary” on his mixtape “Ready Set Go 2: Going Going Gone“, but could never fully promote it as it violated some copyright laws. Jayomega sent me the track and advised him he should really get to remaking that beat to generate the song. But instead of using the same lyrics, he went in. Jayomega’s flow meets the pace to Syer amazing production skills. This track will always be one of my favorites! And Shoutout to Jayomega for giving my site a shoutout at the beginning/end of the track.
IMG_6166
[WHEN LOVE DIES] This track wow! It hit a nerve. But Jayomega’s story-telling of a love that ended. When that spark no longer existed and makes it difficult to continue with that person. You just have no emotion left what so ever. With this story, something wasn’t right from the start, but love falls heavy and it just doesn’t matter since you finally have this person. But then things get shady and sometimes relationships can’t last. Jayomega’s tone is sincere and makes you think its better to have a love that’s lost then not loving at all. Give love a try.

Screen Shot 2016-08-14 at 2.24.43 AM[LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING] What! This track goes hard! Jayomega brings that fuego on this one. His flow is fast and telling it like it is. Presence is strong with Jayomega. That heavy bass brings out the animal in Jayomega, production by Syer. Love the chemistry with these too. They can really make some dope music together.

[FIRST 48] Jayomega can’t wait any longer for Syer’s beat, its time for a freestyle. Well, more like an acapella… When Jayomega is ready in the studio, he’s filled with passion with his rhymes. Straight up BARS!

I find the eight track EP to be a good amount of songs for this project. Lately due to people’s attention span, usually long mixtapes of over 20 songs fall on deaf ears. Giving the listener enough to want some more. I thought Jayomega’s The Essence EP was a dope listen and solid with production choices and lyrical content. If you’re diggin Jayomega make sure show support listen to the project, follow him on all his social media outlets, and don’t forget to stay tune for more episodes of The Officially Street Podcast!

[AUDIO] Arkadian – Bounce

Screen Shot 2016-08-08 at 2.53.15 PM

[BRONX, NY] Making his debut on NikkiSiixx.com, we have hip-hop artist Arkadian. With his latest single BOUNCE. Bounce is a trap/club track that discusses the different types of things you like to enjoy. According to Arkadian he says “the struggle that you see around the world in the hoods, not just people of color meaning brown, black, tan, he wants people to see THE STRUGGLE because that is what we all got no matter what level we are at in the world we know today as the land of the free”.

Here’s a little bit of history on Arkadian, he had to get major spine surgery due to fighting for our freedom with the U.S. Army. He had to get eight screws and two 4-inch rods in his back & with the time that heís been recovering and watching how the country he fought for is turning upside down. This inspired him to pick up the pen and write down what he truly felt. This helped him reflect on his life, growing up as a soldier, and chilling in his hood while stationed at Fort Bragg N.C and Fort Hamilton NY.

If you’re diggin’ BOUNCE make sure to listen to it on either Spotify or Tidal! And don’t forget to show your support by following him below:

jayomega

Jayomega Photo[BRONX, NEW YORK] JAYOMEGA releases his latest track IT’S MY TIME. Inspired by 2Chainz mixtape Tru REALigion, using the hook as inspiration from one of his songs on that tape. It’s pretty dope that JAYOMEGA has some lines referencing to Dragon Ball Z. IT’S MY TIME was produced by SYER. He’s pretty confident in his lyrics. He just wants to show the world of Hip-Hop that it’s his time to come. What do you think of his track?

New Music: Breeze Embalm – Los Muertos

Breeze Embalm

Los Muertos[BRONX, NEW YORK] Breeze Embalm is not your ordinary rapper from the Bronx. He won The John Lennon songwriting grand prize in the hip-hop category with lines like “Once you crumble paper it can never be perfect, but you can still draw something so beautiful”. Today, we share Breeze Embalms latest single LOS MUERTOS. Releasing his first solo project The Ceremony of Nadir EP that takes you on a lyrical adventure. Breeze Embalm was selected to play in Brooklyn’s Hip Hop festival sponsored by Yume. He has also shared the stage with YC the Cynic, Chris Rivers, Dee-1, Kosha Dillz to name a few. LOS MUERTOS was produced by Joey Keaze. Just love that Latino production, really makes me feel I’m hanging out in the Caribbean drinking a Piña Colada on the beach. Amanda Maxine on the hook, she really gives that latina taste to it. Breeze Embalm has lately been receiving love from 2DopeBoyz, URB Magazing, AllHipHop, and Jack Thriller. Be on the look out for Embalms upcoming EP Embalming Fluid which is set to release August 17th. Special features From Blu, Dessy Hinds (Pro Era), Enonymous and Amanda Maxine. New Music: Charlie Domino – Addicted To Life

photo

photo[HARLEM, NEW YORK] Charlie Domino drops his latest single ADDICTED TO LIFE, off of his upcoming Domino3ffect mixtape. One thing I really like about the track is the production. Since it’s so mellow, Charlie Domino takes it easy and expresses himself with his verses. Catchy Hook: We’re Addicted To Life… That Kinda Life That Made That Man Cheat On His Wife, That Kinda Life That Everything Got A Fucking Price, That Kinda Life Where People Never Think Twice…” I feel this kind of lifestyle wouldn’t make you completely satisfied because of the stress you have to endure with the consequences of all three. I’m in love with the sample used in the middle of the track. I feel that if everyone was rich off life than everyone would live a happier one. Apart of the sample says “Possessions make you rich? I don’t have that type of richness, my richness is life forever“. Be on the look out this [FREESTYLE FRIDAY], where we got another dope freestyle by Charlie Domino.

Music Video: Steve Gunna – L.O.S.T

stevegunna

Steve Gunna is a hip hop artist from the Bronx, NY. He released his own visual to his single L.O.S.T. Even though Gunna can created his own production before, this time he decided to take on a beat by SeriousBeats. Creating a song that is very introspective over a soulful beat. L.O.S.T was taken in one consecutive shot while Steve Gunna is driving around and venting to the passenger (the viewer/listener) about his feelings on the state of hip hop. Expressing through his wittiness, he places a strong emphasis on his lyrical content. The visual is presented to us in black and white, with some of Steve’s lyrics popping up here and there throughout the video. Currently, Steve Gunna is working on newer content to give to his fans. Be on the look out!

New Music: Eli Saf Feat. Mickey Factz – “Vice”

unnamed

unnamedWe have some new music from 19-year-old Bronx rapper/producer Eli Saf. On this latest offering, Eli calls upon XXL Freshman alumni, and fellow Bronx native, Mickey Factz. Mickey nonchalantly spits some pretty dope bars and Eli follows suit on this chill production. Needless to say, it almost feels like Mickey is saying, “hey, this kid is next.” Eli makes it clear that the track is special, even referring to Mickey as a legend in his verse.

Once a troubled senior in high school, Eli almost failed because of his dedication to music. Now, as a student at Bronx Community College, Eli has shown growth and is currently releasing cut after cut. Fans can expect a follow-up to the KID mixtape (which was a project dedicated to Eli’s father and deceased uncle) in the near future. In the meantime, sit back, and stream Eli Saf’s “Vice.”

Music Video: Cris Streetz- Made For This

Screen Shot 2014-07-25 at 10.30.34 PM

Cris Streetz released the video for “Made For This”, the first single from his project Rise & Fall. The video was shot in New York and has a great uptown feel. The video starts with a few people on the street saying “I’m made for this”. Throughout the vidoe you see multiple people doing their jobs, exercising and just living as they would on a daily basis. The chorus is very melodic and makes you want to sing along with it even after the song is finished. Cris Streetz is lyrical and gets his thoughts across in a clean manner. I have to mention the beautiful skyline in the background as Cris is rapping on the roof.

Mixtape Review: XALI – The American House Slave

Xali_Theamericanhouseslave-front-large

Xali_Theamericanhouseslave-front-large

XALI (ZA-LI) is a hip-hop artist that was born in the Bronx and now resides in Ft.Lauderdale. As a member of IMC and front man of the SoFlo movement; along with South Florida artist VON, they share a common goal: To make their mark on hip-hop. Through this transition, XALI’s goal is to shed light through hip-hop using knowledge, experiences and the untold truth hidden in the world. Influenced by his passion for poetry, the transition to hip-hop became effortless to him; Therefore making it his number one priority.

His music is a form of art though stories of pain, love, unfortunate experiences and life inspirations. Xali releases his first official mixtape The American House Slave. This project is definitely worth the listen. This mixtape contains twenty-one tracks, which they all provide you with a story, rhythm, and dopeness. Throughout this review, I will discuss my six favorite tracks off The American House Slave. Here we go: (Don’t forget to press play while you read! Enjoy the music)

[100.GRAMS] Xali is letting them know that he is going to be different. He demonstrates this through his flow. How? Because of his word play, the truth behind his lyrics, and his demeanor on the beat. Love that boom-bap production that actually presents itself throughout the entire mixtape. You can tell Xali is inspired with 90’s hip-hop through his vibe. Which I can’t complain cause it’s definitely a nice refreshing change compared to what the current state of hip-hop sounds like.

[SUPREME] This guy is crazy when it comes to his flow. His presence on this beat is ridiculous! You can bob your head to this one. The production on this track is strong and has a sense of darkness. “See the prophet. Pictures of american profit. Lock ya pockets. Opt for a higher option… Half of my mind is gone from the drug abuse ..Smoking addiction to calm my nerves. I’m a troubled youth… Blessed with the diction to rape with words. Imma fxck the booth.

[2BLUNTS] For the track 2Blunts, Xali was able to create a visual for it. But before we get to the video let’s talk about this song. Besides the production being on point, (Shoutout to Napsthelionman). Xali takes us through a session with his boys. Smoking out and chilling out. Really like the solo, black and white shots. Pretty dope intro with the smoke creeping up into the title name. You can definitely vibe out to this one. & don’t forget to watch the visual as well.

HappyXa

[MARIJUANA.TIMES] I swear this track has that fun sense to it. Xali goes all out on this one. Expressing the way he feels about Marijuana and what he does with it. You get that 90’s boom-bap with a vibe of summertime. Xali states “Resurrection of the hippies”…if you’re apart of the movement, then we’re all joining forces! Definitely a fun track. Had this on repeat x25. Love the charisma on the track. Who can’t relate?

Marijuana times,
Marijuana times,
1 blunt with 4 dimes,
For my marijuana mind,
I’m searching…

[KICK.BACK] This track has that street edge to it, dark but dope. Xali is dropping knowledge. Definitely liking the hook.

Q: NIKKISIIXX: What inspired you to write Kick Back?
A: XALI: The song reminds me of some Wu-tang. Methon Man and Redman type vibe. The entry is strictly based on me describing myself in the first four bars..then transitioning to dropping knowledge while keeping the boom-bap alive.

Check out his third verse!
I’m talking when its cold and all the bitch nigas fly south /
And darkness pull you deep .
Who gone climb out
See nigas pull they shrine out/
Praising they time out .
The type spirit make you shake till your dollars and dimes out /
Empty ya mind out /
one God we trust .
Slay youth for da pesos .
pray to jesus’ for your pay flow //
Nigas will sacrafice their soul before they say no
To money thats a day old
From blood drawn under tables . /
And if they do . Know they living in a fxckin fable .
Sometimes a bitch niga isn’t able /

[THE.RIGHT1] Xali expresses himself through song about a tragic loss he had. On December 11, 2012 Xali lost his father to Cancer. So unfortunate to loose someone dear to you and especially under the circumstances of disease. Throughout the song I felt Xali was talking and expressing himself things to his father on THE.RIGHT1.

If you missed out on Xali’s Release Party for The American House Slave check out the video below for a short recap of the best moments from the party.

Xali describes his personal life experiences to express his views towards the hip-hop culture. The American House Slave mixtape focuses on the struggle of the middle and lower class. The concept is captured through his lyrics and presents that our culture is mentally enslaved and the people consider it home: America.

Stay tuned for any future updates from Xali by following his links below! Also, Xali will be performing at MIAJAMFEST 02/07/2014 at The Stage Miami. View more details via NIKKISIIXX.COM.
