[DOWNLOAD] Dezzy Yates – Tales From The Checkered Backpack

[COLUMBUS, GA] Making his very first appearance on NikkiSiixx.com, Christian Hip-Hop Artist Dezzy Yates brings us his album TALES FROM THE CHECKERED BACKPACK. The twelve track album brings you insight from a self proclaimed video gamer, Japanese comic, Pokemon, and Hip-Hop enthusiast. Dezzy Yates also wants to spread the word to “tell people about Jesus and share and create great music that people can relate to.”

Inspired by artists like Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and Kid Cudi as well as street dancers Salah, Mike “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers, and the Jabbawockeez, intertwined with his faith in Jesus Christ and his love for nerd “stuff”. Dezzy Yates gives the listener an honest, truthful, and fun experience. I really like the choice of production Dezzy Yates chose to represent his tales from the checkered backpack. Dezzy narrates his life from 2010-2013, here’s where he had many life changing events that led him to give his life for Jesus Christ. This album has its ups and its downs. And definitely has its fun songs filled with video game and Pokemon references.

dezzy yates photoCurrently, my favorite tracks from Dezzy Yates Album Tales From The Checkered Backpack are Tales, Pallet Town, Just Another Night, Step Daddys Altima, Sonic Boom, One Day, Kid In The Crowd, Temptation, Misguided, and INFTY & BYND. Not bad 10/12 tracks liked on this project. Dezzy Yates is able to capture my attention through his flows and the topics he’s talking about. Definitely providing a visual illustration in my mind.

Dezzy Yates states in the press release for his album “I tried for so long to be like everyone else, rap and dance like the “cool kids”, and fit in so bad. After giving my life to Christ and confronting the things I was dealing with, I felt compelled to write a project that documented everything. The whole point of this album: to reach those out there who are like me.” After listening to his project, I feel I can relate to Dezzy and I think everyone should listen to this project with open minds. Stay in the loop with Dezzy Yates and make sure you follow him on all his social media below.

Music Video: Yung Nye – Feel Me

yung nyeCheck out the latest visual from Atlanta Artist Yung Nye. But this time he’s bringing us a mini movie for his third single FEEL ME off of his mixtape My Story. FEEL ME portrays his life to the audience. Showing how no one can believe in him until he does something about it. From the time when his parents actually kicked him out of the house. Which helped Yung Nye in getting his life together. But those were really tough times. He was even dealing with female relationship issues. The visual was directed by D. Sheetz. They previously worked together on a previous music video which was PIECE OF MIND, which was also featured here on NikkiSiixx.com. Stay tuned on what’s next for Yung Nye! He’s currently getting booked for shows throughout the summer-early fall, and working on his sophomore tape as well.

Download: ChristinΞ χ DGRZZL: EMINENCE

Processed with VSCOcam with b6 presetLast time we brought you ChristinΞ it was with her Instrumental EP Betty “Moe” Trezza. This time I’m bringing you a collaborating between ChristinΞ and DGRZZL titled EMINENCE. The 11 track album definitely is worth the listen. The chemistry between ChristinΞ and DGRZZL is enchanting. DGRZZL is a writer/MC from ATL, GA as ChristinΞ is the producer reppin’ Miami, New York, and Georgia. EMINENCE was mastered by Chip Williams from Miami Beat Wave. Love listening to this project, some of my favorite tracks are FORGET, BALANCE, LAST TIME, and TO KNOW YOU IS TO LOVE YOU. Really love ChristinΞ style with her beats still maintaining a hip-hop essence with some soul and jazz. Especially in the production for TO KNOW YOU IS TO LOVE YOU it’s beautiful! The violin gives it such purity. Also, with the track FORGET DGRZZL states these lines and I think their pretty dope “I don’t even smoke but I’ll roll one up and then regret it, we live and we learn and then we learn to forget it…learn to forget it” and KOI’s voice in the intro and throughout the track was just flawless. You have to take a listen to the entire project to truly appreciate it. Check it out now via the player above!

Together we are ChristinΞ χ DGRZZL

We have joined forces to try and breed a new sound, carrying uplifting vibes upon all, like healers. A mix of ambient, soul and experimental hip hop.

Audio: Alex Faith – Bloodlines featuring J.R.

Collision Records’ artist Alex Faith presents his second track off his album ATLast. I’m really digging’ this mesh up from hiphop verses to powerhouse chorus/hooks. An electronic beat with nice snares brought to you with crazy production from Wit & Wes Pendleton. You would never guess Alex had so much in him when it comes to his presence on the track. He stands out! Looking forward to his project ATLast, that dropped last month via iTunes.

Alex Faith is poised to capitalize on the success and acclaim he’s garnered from features with his own offering of music birthed in the south and raised on authenticity and gritty realism. While he holds his faith high, don’t expect to hear songs that are sermons and scripture recitations. Alex embraces his faith while still transparently rhyming about his struggles with belief, social issues, loved ones, poverty and more.

New Music: Miloh Smith – Revolver

Atlanta, GA native Miloh Smith recently dropped her latest song “Revolver” and I loved the song so much that it was only right that I wrote about it. To be completely honest when I saw the artwork I had no idea what I was in for but was more than impressed when I heard this songstress singing. This song is true poetry from beginning to end. Miloh uses the term revolver which would instantly make most think of a gun to symbolize love and heartache.

The story told through the lyrics were vivid enough for one to see being painted in the mind and that’s probably the reason why I’ve found myself listening to this song every day since first hearing it. Please feel free to check out the song below and leave comments. By the way don’t be confused by the fact that Miloh is singing on this song she is also a lyrical wordsmith when it comes to rapping as well and she is quick to prove it.

New Music: ANDY of (East Side Get The Money) – Antique

Andy is an artist from collective hip-hop brand called East Side Get The Money also known as E$GT$ which reside in Atlanta, GA. Andy fully produced, wrote, and performed his exclusive track titled ANTIQUE. I really like the cover art because since it has an old Genesis Game you can consider that as an antique too. The song gives us raps x harmonies. Has a mash up of R&B & Hip-Hop. Great Track! You should stay tuned for upcoming music from ANDY and E$GT$, by following the links below.

Event: A3C Hip-Hop Festival & Why You Should Be There

I’ll never forget the day I got the call from my partner. It was early in the week, and I asked what we were going to do next. He mentioned possibly driving from Orlando to Atlanta for a hip-hop festival. I’d heard of music festivals before, but what he was suggesting was nearly a dream. Three days of all the dopeness of hip-hop? We were on the phone and hopped on line and did the research together.

It was early October, 2010. We decided days before the festival was to begin that we would make the drive. Plans were made, and hotel and tickets were purchased. We paid $25 for three day passes and there were over 200 acts scheduled to perform. Our plan was to network and spread the word about our artist, all while soaking in as much hip-hop as we could stand over the short time we were going to be there.

I decided to connect with other festival goers via Twitter to jumpstart the networking. I’m here to tell you I met most of these people and some of them have proved to be some of the most incredible folks I’ve met thus far in my lifetime. Real connections were made with real people, and the music was just incredible. As a fan, this is the ultimate experience to get up close and personal with some of your favorite artists as they roam through the venue without security and celebratory hoopla that generally surrounds them. As an aspiring *insert music professional title of your choice,* the same holds true. Get to Atlanta and jumpstart it all.

This year will be my third year attending and every year, I go on Twitter rants about why folks should be there. This year, I figured if I made a short list and shared it along with my personal story, I’d reach a few more people.

Here goes nothing:

– This year, the festival has expanded and will host six stages and will have over 300 artists performing throughout the city of Atlanta during the three days.

– 2 Wu-Tang members have been confirmed.

– As the festival is in Atlanta, the recent announcement of a Dungeon Family performance is pretty freaking epic.

– A extremely diverse pool of independent artists from all over the world is filling out the bill.

– All of this is happening, and you still won’t pay $100 at the door for the three day pass.

Aspiring artists, producers, journalists, publicists, promoters, etc. This part is for you:

– Come network with people who are or have been in your shoes.

– Potentially meet your future clients.

– Establish your identity in the industry.

– Gain new fans by sharing your story.

– See some of your inspirational mentors up close and personal.

9th Wonder was on hand for a question and answer session, debuted his documentary, then set the festival all the way off with his entire Jamla Records family and special guests tearing down the stage.

I hope I’ve inspired you to check the festival out. If you’re too far away to make it this year, though it is still more than a month away… plan for next year. If you’re attending, I’d love to meet you. Find me and tell me your story.
