I was able to obtain the official copy of Issue #1.5 of Samurai Shin. It’s expected to release on July 3rd via PeepGameComix. This issue is based on the Prelude to Samurai Shin Issue #1. Here’s what I thought about the comic:
From my brief review for Issue #1, Amir Atsuko and Keith Masaru are young warriors eager to prove that they are worthy of the title as Samurai. Although the two of them share such similar back stories and goals, they never really liked each other. But unnecessary evil appears in their village… and a man with a bear mask.
Issue 1.5 provides you the story as to why Keith Masaru is the way he is. After receiving training from his father after losing out to Amir Atsuko at a tournament. Keith was set to better himself in order to beat Amir, in which Amir was a current student of Master Kenzo. Who actually trained Keith’s Dad Fuji Masaru when he was a child.
One thing I really like about the Samurai Shin series, is the detailed to the illustrations and the deepness to the story. Samurai Shin was created and written by Mikel Miles. In the prelude comic you see the illustrations stand out, especially when the images are in full color, really gives the characters some light, on how they would truly look like. Illustrations created by Harley Dela Cruz and Art + Cover by Sukma Agustriyana and Fhama Fauzi.
At the beginning of Samurai Shin you felt hesitant to Keith because he seemed like a self-center character. But in reality he’s fighting his own demons, and felt that Master Kenzo was really holding him back from his full potential. Throughout the comic you see how Keith began to learn the ways of improving his skill with the sword by his father’s teachings and training. And you see the bond grow between Keith and he his father as well. Until the climax of the story in which I won’t spoil here.
After reading the conclusion to the prelude, it just makes sense as to why Keith is so bitter. Once I reached to the suspenseful ending, it just goes to show Samurai Shin Issue #2 needs to get here sooner than later. I personally don’t want to detail how the comic leaves you on a cliff hanger you just have to read it for yourself. Stay tuned for an update to this post with the link to Samurai Shin 1.5 Prelude Comic, and might as well check out Issue #1.
