[BRONX, NEW YORK] Making his return on NikkiSiixx.com, Jayomega has been non-stop over the last year. With a successful podcast series called “The Officially Street”, making it to episode 52. Also, the last time we featured some music from Jayomega was with It’s My Time single, and he opened up my compilation mixtape NETWERK VOL TEN with SANCTUARY PART II. And when I added him on the POLL: Who Sampled It Better? Kingdom Hearts Utada Hikaru – Sanctuary, in which he won on listeners choice.
Now, he brings us THE ESSENCE EP. The eight track ep is a great way to reintroduce himself to new/old listerners. Here’s what Jayomega had to say about his approach in creating this EP. “I miss the essence of hip hop. I miss the era of the late 90’s and early 2000’s when lyrics, content and conTEXT actually mattered. There was a time when you had to be about what you claimed you were, and you were only respected if you honored the competitive nature of the genre and EARNED your spot by rapping your ass off to get there. It hasn’t been that way in like 8 years, and so I did this EP for those fans/artist who miss that era as well”.
I’ll be reviewing my favorite tracks off the project. My favorite songs are What It Sound Like? Tell Me What You See, Sanctuary Part II, When Love Dies, Let Me Tell You Something, and First 48.
[WHAT IT SOUND LIKE?] I feel that Jayomega, is motivated to not give up. The Essence EP is Jayomega’s tenth independent project release. The voice that was sampled is from Eric Thomas, an inspirational hip-hop speaker. What they used, makes you want to move forward. The production reminds me of late 90’s New York hip-hop track, produced by Syer (Co-Host of The Offically Street Podcast).
[TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE] During the hook Jayomega wants you to close you’re eyes, and open your mind. What do you see? Jayomega takes you to what he’s mind sees. Living life to the fullest and keeping your head up. His flow on the track fits perfectly with the production by Lil BEZ.
[SANCTUARY PART II] Jayomega was inspired by the original song when he first heard it on the opening credits of “Kingdom Hearts 2”, a popular Disney inspired RPG that released for Playstation 2 in 2005. Jayomega originally released “Sanctuary” on his mixtape “Ready Set Go 2: Going Going Gone“, but could never fully promote it as it violated some copyright laws. Jayomega sent me the track and advised him he should really get to remaking that beat to generate the song. But instead of using the same lyrics, he went in. Jayomega’s flow meets the pace to Syer amazing production skills. This track will always be one of my favorites! And Shoutout to Jayomega for giving my site a shoutout at the beginning/end of the track.
[WHEN LOVE DIES] This track wow! It hit a nerve. But Jayomega’s story-telling of a love that ended. When that spark no longer existed and makes it difficult to continue with that person. You just have no emotion left what so ever. With this story, something wasn’t right from the start, but love falls heavy and it just doesn’t matter since you finally have this person. But then things get shady and sometimes relationships can’t last. Jayomega’s tone is sincere and makes you think its better to have a love that’s lost then not loving at all. Give love a try.
[LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING] What! This track goes hard! Jayomega brings that fuego on this one. His flow is fast and telling it like it is. Presence is strong with Jayomega. That heavy bass brings out the animal in Jayomega, production by Syer. Love the chemistry with these too. They can really make some dope music together.
[FIRST 48] Jayomega can’t wait any longer for Syer’s beat, its time for a freestyle. Well, more like an acapella… When Jayomega is ready in the studio, he’s filled with passion with his rhymes. Straight up BARS!
I find the eight track EP to be a good amount of songs for this project. Lately due to people’s attention span, usually long mixtapes of over 20 songs fall on deaf ears. Giving the listener enough to want some more. I thought Jayomega’s The Essence EP was a dope listen and solid with production choices and lyrical content. If you’re diggin Jayomega make sure show support listen to the project, follow him on all his social media outlets, and don’t forget to stay tune for more episodes of The Officially Street Podcast!
[ROCKLAND, NEW YORK] Making his debut on NikkiSiixx.com, the hip-hop rapper brings us his latest single ON AND ON that he takes extreme pride with his music. He touches base on his struggle with his alcohol addiction. Talks about his weaknesses with bad women who don’t want to stay. And understanding that life will go on regardless of how hard you try to slow it down. One thing I really like about this track was the production with the jazzy sounds and how Des Brennan overall tone on the track. Really gave an intimate discussion feel. Dope track brought to you by Des Brennan. Make sure to stay in the loop by following him on Twitter at @DesBrennanMusic.

[BROOKLYN, NEW YORK] Making her debut on NikkiSiixx.com, we got femcee Dante Lennon with her latest EP entitled Party At A Funeral. Dante Lennon definitely presents a tough/fierce female role, with so much power in her flow. Party At A Funeral also features PremeDaPrez, D.R.U.G, and Deacon. The eight track project really provides you a sight of love and loss throughout it all.
Dante Lennon presents us with a retrospective dialogue aimed towards to celebrating the complexities that make life appealing. Taking a few listens in on the EP, Dante Lennon brings us some really detailed situations that only makes you wonder. My favorite tracks off Party At A Funeral are EVEL, PARTY AT A FUNERAL, WAITING, THAT LIFE, AND FIN. Here’s what I thought about those tracks:
EVEL – Dante Lennon brings us a revealing pass. Talks about what’s happened at her performances, what’s she willing to do for a relationship, and having to deal with people betraying her. Dante Lennon makes sure to deal with these situations the most positive way even though it caused some pain. She’s moving forward without looking back. The vocals singing “I’m Evel Canvel, watch me blast off” really gives you that whatever you want to do, you’re going to do it.
PARTY AT A FUNERAL – Opening up about hustling in the streets and up to no good, now she’s on a better path. The vibe of the track gives me a late 90’s street cypher style/production. I’m personally in love with Dante Lennon’s second verse on this track. I felt she deliver that with perfection. She murdered it with that one.
WAITING – Gives the listener a perspective of someone who’s dealing with heartache. About a love that didn’t last and doesn’t want another chance at it. But you still want to try. You expect them to wait for you and not being with someone else. Because you know that love was real. You made mistakes, but improving yourself and hoping they want to be with you again, someday. But unfortunately, in this tale it’s not a happily ever after.
THAT LIFE – Off rip, this track gives you a trance like vibe, in a way it reminds me of Missy Elliot. But I don’t mind that at all, I like how Dante Lennon can adjust her flow speed depending on the pace of the beat. She sounds hella dope on this track, I can definitely hear this on the radio. Definitely that pop/hip-hop sound to it.
FIN – What a way to end Party At A Funeral with straight up BARS! Dante Lennon brings it to the table with what she has to say. She even brings up the topics of police brutality, gentrification occurring in her neighborhood, and what she got to do to survive.
Opening up the pages to her diary, Dante Lennon reveals much truth with her lyrics. And with that she wants you to get to know her story. If you’re feeling her project as much as I am, you should definitely take a look for updates by following her social media outlets. Check out her latest music video for One Thing:

[BROOKLYN, NY] Making her debut on NikkiSiixx.com, VIIK brings us her latest visuals to PAPER/PAPER REMIX. The singer/songwriter/producer delivers a mix of electronic, hip-hop, dub reggae and even some trap elements. VIIK goals is to promote semi-conscious lyrics with beats to make you bounce. You definitely have to on this record!
According to VIIK: “Paper” is a satirical yet playful hip-hoppy reggae banger about the power of the “almighty dollar” and the grip it has on society. There’s so much chaos in the world yet we are all distracted by our daily quest for the cash. It keeps a lot of the population from becoming aware and finding their purpose. And on top of that as a human of color, racism and systematic oppression is still alive.
PAPER/PAPER REMIX brings us some funky psychedelic visuals. I really like VIIK goth/edm look with the hot pink dreads, pink eyebrows, and everything leather. Her voice in kind and delivers a powerful message. Its time to get that paper. Follow VIIK via her Twitter Account @VIIK_WORLD and get updated on new content!
Making his debut on NikkiSiixx.com Roy The Savage with his latest single E.N.Y (SLOWdown Gentrification). The powerful message Roy The Savage confidently expresses his thoughts on the massive rezoning process that’s happening in his neighborhood, East New York. If you’re not familiar with Gentrification is, SOUTH PARK makes it clear on their episode “The City Part of Town”. It’s insane because gentrification is also happening here in Miami, such as the extremely ARTSY Wynwood.
Roy The Savage raps in English and a little bit of Spanish, he presents his roots from his Dominican household. His style has been shaped by the golden era of hip-hop of the 1990’s and NY’s greats. Roy dedicates himself to his community by running projects that help young people in his neighborhood get internships. [NEW YORK] After having Kojazz made his appearance on the NikkiJoMazing Couch, then releasing his Change The Subject EP, and constantly working with his other affiliates from the iLLustrious group. Currently, KoJazz released another collective project entitled the Jazz Daniels EP. The nine track EP is solely produced by Solidified. According to KoJazz “Journey through 30 minutes of liquored up tunes and cheers to good times sponsored by shots of good ol’ Jazz Daniels…Listen Responsibly”. And that’s what I’m planning on doing, I’ll be reviewing the project and pick out my favorite tracks.
[HONEY ON THE ROCKS] This track definitely sets the mood right and demonstrates a night of influence. Kojazz is setting the tone over this sweet Solidified beat. Kojazz is very descriptive and describes heading to a bar and fighting his demons. His flow lands perfectly with the beat.
[THE BREWERY] Kojazz collaborates with JuG the ILLEST and Rell Burgundy. This track sets the mood for the afterparty. Everyone has bars and I think its pretty dope there’s a Flash line hidden in the track. The hook is mad catchy! THE BREWERY can definitely be played at clubs I can sense the crowd to really be feeling this one.
[POUR DECISIONS INTERLUDE] After a night of binge drinking, you can only imagine the poor decisions you’ll make under the influence. One of them like driving under the influence. I really like the samples and skit at the end. Showing you the effects of driving drunk and getting pulled over.
[ALCOHOL POISONING] I feel like this is the climax track to the Jazz Daniels EP. Everyone on the track Christyle, MeRCY, and Kojazz get rowdy on this one. I really like Christyle’s verse, she’s brining it to the table.
[GENTLEMEN JAZZ] time to slow down the night and unwind with Kojazz and YoAmanduh. Even though Kojazz may seem tough but he can get romantic on the track. YoAmanduh brings that late night vibes with her sultry voice. Nice way to end the 30 minute journey.
This concludes my review on Kojazz’s Jazz Daniel’s EP. Shoutout to everyone who was apart of the project Solidified, Bishop, MeRCY, Rell Burgundy, JuG the ILLest, Christyle, & yoAmamduh. If you’re diggin’ the EP as much as I am, you gotta follow and stay in the loop with Kojazz.

Once his single THE ONE released it has over 7,000 plays just in two days. Maintaining the momentum, Aaron Cohen and HipHopDX collaborated on the visuals to THE ONE. The track is hella catchy, shoutout to KEMAL for the dope production, and the video was shot in Los Angeles by Director Peter Sobat.
THE ONE describes the issues when it comes to becoming an independent artist with a following. Not being able to maintain a relationship and falling for the sins of the music industry. It’s hard not to follow these traits when you have women and your music. Be on the lookout for more content from Aaron Cohen in 2016!
