[ALBUM REVIEW] AJB4 – Organic Growth

AJB4 - Organic Growth FRONT

[CHATTANOOGA, TN] This will actually be AJB4 first official post on NikkiSiixx.com. He did make an appearance with his single I BE THAT, in a previous project review I did for Samurai Shin VS Xia-Dawn. This time we have my review on his latest album Organic Growth. But before I get into the review, lets get to know him a bit better.

Growing up with the church and traveling all over the world due to his father love for God and his strength being a chaplain in the military. In 2008 his cousin and himself started to create rap songs that showed their devotion for the church. Which later turned into something greater, the love to becoming a musician and perfecting his craft. Lets look eight years down the line, here’s where AJB4 has released six projects and he’s received radio play from various online radio stations like K107FMJamz, GospelSynergy Radio and QSJRadio.

Throughout the ten track album, AJB4 presents us with solid work. The tracks I felt that really stood out to me were Loaded, Figure It Out, Its On Me, Spam Musubi, and You Don’t Know. Here’s what I thought are Organic Growth.

[02. LOADED] I really wish AJB4 started the album with this track. It really grabs my attention. AJB4 comes loaded and locked, with God by his side he feels there’s no room for error. He fights for what he believes in. Melodic harmonies in the hook, its hard not to recite it.

[03. FIGURE IT OUT] AJB4 opens up his heart, to the one that befriended him. Even though there was something more but it ended up in the trash. Growing up and becoming a man, AJB4 knows what he wants. And won’t let anyone hurt him when it comes to love. This tracks production makes me want to move back and forth. Even feels trance-like.

[05. ITS ON ME] I find this to be my favorite track off Organic Growth. Who hasn’t experience a relationship where the other half expect perfection from you. Causing stress and unnecessary pressure in not messing up. Or for some reason everything is your fault. AJB4 expresses his lyrics with a sense of wittiness. Even when breaking down the second verse and how she flipped so fast like he never existed and blocking him out of her life. At least AJB4 admits to his messes.

AJB4 - Organic Growth BACK

[08. SPAM MUSUBI] AJB4 talks about a girl of interest, that feels could be the one for him. Meeting her online, developing a dating relationship, talking all the time, and having something he thinks is real from afar. Kinda like it’s too good to be true, but that didn’t work out. Decides to make a move on someone but later found out she was in a relationship. AJB4 is looking for someone who’s real and not fake! I really like AJB4 flow on this one.

[10. YOU DON’T KNOW] AJB4 has been through a lot of struggles. But regardless he looks up to God and here’s where he can strive for greatness. Even have a close death experience it hit him like a ton of bricks. Feeling free and going down the right path. Talking about his story, he hopes you can learn from his mistakes.

AJB4 says his main goals are to make good positive music, praise God, keep it real, and share experiences in his life.

This concludes my album review of AJB4 Organic Growth, I broke down my favorite stand out tracks. Which tracks you felt were you’re favorite? [AUDIO] Arkadian – Bounce

Screen Shot 2016-08-08 at 2.53.15 PM

[BRONX, NY] Making his debut on NikkiSiixx.com, we have hip-hop artist Arkadian. With his latest single BOUNCE. Bounce is a trap/club track that discusses the different types of things you like to enjoy. According to Arkadian he says “the struggle that you see around the world in the hoods, not just people of color meaning brown, black, tan, he wants people to see THE STRUGGLE because that is what we all got no matter what level we are at in the world we know today as the land of the free”.

Here’s a little bit of history on Arkadian, he had to get major spine surgery due to fighting for our freedom with the U.S. Army. He had to get eight screws and two 4-inch rods in his back & with the time that heís been recovering and watching how the country he fought for is turning upside down. This inspired him to pick up the pen and write down what he truly felt. This helped him reflect on his life, growing up as a soldier, and chilling in his hood while stationed at Fort Bragg N.C and Fort Hamilton NY.

If you’re diggin’ BOUNCE make sure to listen to it on either Spotify or Tidal! And don’t forget to show your support by following him below:

[EP REVIEW]: J Roy Champion – Hawaiian $hirt$ & Work

template-2panel revised [Converted]

[BOSTON] Making his third appearance on NikkiSiixx.com, after his releases like his singles “Hawaiian $hirt$” & “Ashes”. This time we take a look at J Roy Champion’s Hawaiian $hirt$ & Work Mixtape. But here’s a little bit more on the Boston Artist. Growing up with family who embraced music from Blues, Reggae, Classic R&B, and even Hip-Hop. (Thanks to his Father, who was a DJ for years prior to his birth, and there after). This gave J Roy Champion an advantage of learning about music at an early age. Don’t think J Roy Champion is a new comer when already having released eight solo mixtapes to date, his focus now is on his own brand, starting fresh, and redefining himself as a fan of Hip-Hop Culture and being a creator of Hip-Hop music.

Now we have he’s latest mixtape Hawaiian $hirt$ & Work, the six track project definitely provides insightful lyrics over promising production. I’ll be reviewing my favorite tracks off the project. And they are Nazareth, Witne$$, Hawaiian Shirt$, A$hes, and Never.

[01] NAZARETH From the production to an actual visual to J Roy Champion single, I really find this track to be very powerful. “I’m God Like On My Fight To Nazareth” its like nothing can stop him on his journey to making it to the top.

[03] WITNE$$ Keeping his family close, working hard like a hustler but keeping his mind clean with the Lord on his side. Knowing who’s on his side there no doubts on J Roy Champion side. Also, the hook is extremely catchy! How can you not like this track?

template-2panel revised [Converted][04] HAWAIIAN SHIRT$ – By 2:29 there’s a switch up and I really like the approach to that snippet. It literally felt like I was jamming to another track. HAWAIIAN SHIRTS was produced by Hona Castello and co-produced by Savilion.

[05] A$HES – A$HES, features six of Boston’s Finest Emcees: J Roy Champion, Intl Show, Ken Casanova, Exec The Bright, DaGirl IzReal, and Kenny Klutch. A$HES presents us with a classic 90’s hip-hop beat which was produced by Savilion. By having all this talent on the track definitely provides a cypher theme going on. Its pretty dope he still embodies the concept after getting inspired when he discovered the underground scene through a cypher.

[06] NEVER Ends it a bit slow but still leaves you with a punch in the face. Giving you a descriptive story that it’s hard not to visualize it. J Roy Champion is a great story-teller and found a perfect flow for this type of production, produced by International Show.

Hawaiian Shirts & Work is now available for purchase at all digital retail outlets like iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Rhapsody, and Google Play. Mixed and Mastered by Intl Show at SOE Studios Written and Arranged by J Roy Champion (BMI). Be on the lookout for more content from Boston’s own J Roy Champion by following him on all his social media outlets below and this concludes my review on his EP.

[BEAT ALERT] iLLie Nelsun – Kings

kings ill nelsun

[CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA] Making his debut on NikkiSiixx.com, Producer iLLie Nelson (Originating from Queens, NY) with his beat entitled KINGS. This is actually his first Electronic Hip-Hop beat from his Beat Tape “No More Lights“. iLLie Nelson provides an energizing summer anthem with KINGS.

This beat/vibe is perfect for just listening to it from the gym, your car, the club, your home, a house party. It kinda reminds me of playing Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core on the PSP. That electronic uplifting sound brings me back to the countless hours playing it. This beat is entertaining on its own. Definitely playing this on repeat! You should purchase the full beat tape on iTunes and Listen on Spotify for free!

Album Review: Jamal G – To Whom It May Concern 2 – Final Draft

Jamal G TWIMC Cover

[BALTIMORE CITY, MD] After Jamal G’s debut on NikkiSiixx when we played his track If You Need That, and when I had an exclusive interview with him. Currently, Jamal G has released his album To Whom It May Concern 2: Final Draft. The album is a fourteen track in-depth story of Jamal.

[SCATTEREDBRAINED] Jamal G really opens up on the first track on the album. One thing that really stands out to me is his flow, and the genuine soul expressing himself the best way he can. Through his music! Jamal G even touches topics like working hard in achieving his goals, passed relationships, and he even talks about watching his own mother Oding. This is a really dope track! Get to know Jamal G.

[THESE WINGS] In a previous interview with Jamal G, I asked him what inspired this track and he said “These Wings was just something inspired by the space I was in at the time. I didn’t have a real direction for the album but I knew I wanted to make a statement for my community. I sent it to Husky and he wrote the hook and it was just on from there“. This song has to be one of my favorites from the project. From the production, and Jamal’s flow, it leaves you wanting more. Good thing this is just the second song of the album, here we go!

p1777326067-6[ARIEL’S LIFE IN HELL] Jamal G is one hell of a story teller, this track is focused on meeting someone and wanting to get to know them more. Its pretty dope because Jamal G included a female vocal to give Ariel more life on this track. The chemistry between the two is hard not to deny it. And it’s a crazy twist to the story, you just got to hear it for yourself.

[LET IT BE ME] When investing in your time in someone who you feel everything could go right, but yet when you hear the other person’s true emotions can truly be heartbreaking. Jamal G expresses how he feels about someone who left him when he was completely unaware. Love can be blind at times, but hopefully going through with that, Jamal G can open his eyes and find true love.

[QUESTIONS 4 PAC] Have you ever felt compelled to ask questions or advice from people who are no longer here? This time Jamal G looks for more answers by asking Tupac some questions. Hopefully he’ll gain more knowledge on the experience. This track reminded me when Kendrick Lamar had an edited conversation with Tupac on his “To Pimp The Butterfly“. Who wouldn’t want to be able to ask questions to a legendary rapper who inspired so much with his music. Find out what Jamal G discovered with his talk.

[CELEBRATION] After everything Jamal G has gone through, its time to celebrate! Celebrate because we’re alive and we can always better ourselves. To Whom It May Concern 2: Final Draft was a way for Jamal G to get a lot of issues off his chest. I feel this track can be relevant to anyone who appreciates life and wants to keep living in a positive way.

p1847730871-6

Jamal G always felt he was never going to conform to the norm. Looking up to his siblings and loved ones as aspects to his outlook on society. Jamal cultivated a perspective that’s widely shared through his community. In 2010, Jamal released his first offering under his neighborhood alias, Blizz, entitled “To Whom It May Concern.” The project provided opportunities to open up for artist such as Marsha Ambrosius, Rick Ross, and a host of other artist.

Jamal G has a very mature tone over the entire project To Whom It May Concern 2: Final Draft. It’s been described as “Mood music for the long drive home.” Jamal recently finished touring around the world sharing the news about his new album, “I’ve never attempted to make music for self exemplification or popularity. Music is the most unselfish thing that I can offer to my people as a glimmer of some sort of hope. There’s pain, triumph, and faith all wrapped up in this new project, I just my generation take the time to live with it, so it can properly effect our lives.“.

2015-03-10_22.26.24

“TWIMC2 is a picture of hope. It describes the mind of an emotionally suppressed man from the Y and millennial generation trying to figure it all out. This can potentially be one of the best independent releases this year. The message I want to get across is that, hope is better than defeat, pain doesn’t just expose you’re vulnerability but you’re humanity, and everything will ultimately work out for those who have Faith”. – JAMAL G

Project Review: Idiotic Oddity – Idiotic Oddity EP

idiotic-oddity

[NAPTOWN, INDIANAPOLIS] Idiotic Oddity is a unique artist that mixes hip-hop, pop, and rock within his genre. This presents a wide arrange of sounds that Idiotic Oddity adapted to quickly. You may think is a bit out of the norm, but who is normal nowadays? Oddity’s also does his own vocals, making an appearance on his hooks/chorus. Really catchy! Wanting me to press replay. Idiotic Oddity released his self titled EP Idiotic Oddity. I find this to be a great introduction to who Oddity is as an artist. The refreshing production and melodies reminded me of one of my favorite Indie Electronic Duos The Limousines. With a dancy 80’s synth and 90’s influenced pop. But Idiotic Oddity provides a hip-hop flow to his verses. Idiotic Oddity EP is a five track project, here’s what I thought about my favorite tracks off of it.

CERTAIN WAY One thing I really like about this song is the production and the catchiness of the hook. Oddity expresses his interest in someone whose not giving the attention he wanted, so he just had to let them go. Admitting his true feelings to her, knowing he’ll be burning their bridge of friendship since he knew the feelings weren’t reciporcal. Regardless, in a way it’s for the best, since he started to feel like he was being led on from a far.

EVERYTHING TO ME Here’s another track where Oddity is expressing himself to a woman of interest. Predicting scenarios if they were to be together. One thing I like about this track is Oddity’s slower flow. You’re able to fully listen to his dialogue and I feel he gets his point across.

TONIGHT ALONE Oddity has the capability to make a catchy hook! Here’s a track where the production takes us more on the rock and roll side. Oddity adapted a faster delivery over the guitar riffs. It just goes to show that Idiotic Oddity is able to work on different sounding music. This track really gives off an indie electronic style. Which I don’t mind because I enjoy that type of genre.

Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 3.47.00 PMIdiotic Oddity is inspired from artist like Frank Ocean, Drake, Tyler The Creator, and Childish Gambino. You can sense what artists inspired how he took his hooks and melodies with Frank Ocean and Drake while Tyler The Creator and Childish Gambino inspired his lyrical approach to his storytelling. With Oddity and his music it catches the listeners’s attention and sparking their curiosity. If you’re diggin’ the Idiotic Oddity EP make sure to listen via SPOTIFY. And follow him on all his social media links to stay in the loop.

Lists: 10 Sultry R&B and Soul Slow Jams

satin_sheets

Allow us to take you on a brief time-traveling journey for some of the most sensuous soul jams to ever pump out of the speakers. Those in the know are already well aware of the importance of the right music for making love and these are some of the jams that you should be making sure are in your Spotify playlist next time you’re with someone special. Over half of those who enjoy music while making love agree that the rights sounds make a big difference in setting the mood and the scene for a sensual evening, according to this infographic on the relationship between sex and music. The same study found that 40 percent of those same people found the right music even more arousing than their partner’s touch. Here are ten great tracks that definitely have the right touch.

01. The Isley Brothers – Between the Sheets

The grandaddy of all smooth slow jams. “Between the Sheets” has been sampled so many times it’s probably playing in someone’s bedroom right now. Notably Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa” sampled the track, and so did Da Brat’s “Funkdafied,” “Nika” by Lil Vicious, Keith Murray’s “Most Beautifullest Thing the World,” Gwen Stefani’s “Luxurious,” and like a hundred other songs. “Between the Sheets” is the truth and you can’t beat the Isley Brothers when it comes to baby-making music.

02. Ready for the World – Love You Down

You can already hear it in your head can’t you? That hook echoing in your brain crooning “let me love you down.” Not only is the beat smoother than silk but Melvin Riley’s vocals practically melt your clothes off. Then, that guitar solo comes in and just blows your mind and now we’re going to take a second and cool off before moving to number three.

03. Sade – No Ordinary Love

Anyone that claims they’re into romantic mood music that isn’t down with Sade doesn’t know what they’re talking about. The opening of this song immediately lets you know what the deal with slow, smoky keys giving way to Sade’s demure vocal line that gets undercut with an epic ’90s guitar riff that makes every time feel like the love scene at the end of an action movie. Game recognizes game with Twin Shadow covering the song on Jimmy Fallon with video of the performance here.

04. Mariah Carey – Always Be My Baby

Mariah may have fallen a bit from her pedestal today, but no one can ever deny the power of Ms. Carey in the ’90s and this was one of her best. Uplifting chords with Mariah’s voice at its best “Always Be My Baby” is a sweet, romantic, and heartbreaking ode to lost love and those who refuse to let go. It works on so many different levels and Carey’s voice is so powerful the song transcends the trappings of time and has become one of the immortal love ballads of our age.

05. Usher – Nice and Slow

They call him U-S-H-E-R R-A-Y-M-O-N-D and “Nice and Slow” is still one of the best songs in the R&B legend’s long repertoire. One of the sexiest singles from 1998’s My Way, the record made Usher a household name and cemented his position as one of the gatekeepers of pop and R&B long before his momentary lapse in judgment led to the signing of Justin Bieber. When it’s seven o’clock on the dot and you’re in the drop top cruising the streets, there’s only one song that will lead you where you want to go.

06. D’Angelo – Untitled (How Does It Feel?)

Truthfully you could easily put just about any D’Angelo song or record on and you’d be ready to roll. Even New York Magazine has applied science to what makes the man’s music so sexy. Soulful guitars combine with a slow-and-steady rhythm section while D’Angelo’s syrupy vocals coat the track like honey for one of the hottest songs that ever hit the charts. But we know all you really remember is the iconic video that also perfectly wraps up everything the song is about into one shot.

07. Frank Ocean – Thinkin’ Bout You

This song, yo. Frank Ocean, the only redeeming figure of the OFWGKTA family (except for Earl, we love you, Earl), he was always just too good to be hanging with a bunch of foul-mouthed chuckleheads spending their time swearing and skating. But 2012’s “Thinkin’ Bout You” from his Channel Orange LP put the soulful singer on a completely different level than his compatriots. Frank was too busy making beautifully crafted love songs with irresistible hooks that made him the perfect R&B star for a new generation.

08. Miguel – Adorn

2012 was a terrific year for slow jams and Miguel’s “Adorn” was one of the best. The dated synthesizers and chords felt more like Lionel Richie than Trey Songz and Miguel ended up falling backwards into a new classic. Miguel is still at the whole bedroom music game with “Coffee,” but he’ll be hard pressed to ever top this one.

09. Ciara – Body Party feat. Future

The ex-Mrs. Future recently dropped her latest record, Jackie, to positive feedback, but it was 2013’s “Body Party” that rebuilt Ciara’s brand and made her a staple of the sexy stereo. Unstoppable producer-du-jour Mike Will Made It flipped the sample from the classic romantic ’90s club jam “My Boo” by the Ghost Town DJs and turned it into a slowed down sexual tour de force bringing that inescapable hook back to life for another summer of love. She may not be with Future anymore but she seems to be doing well after trading up for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, according to the Washington Post.

10. Jeremih – Planes feat. J. Cole

Jeremih has matured a lot since his “Birthday Sex” days and is currently controlling the airwave since 2015 with this outstanding ode to the mile-high club. By all accounts, airplane sex is decidedly not as fun or practical as birthday sex. You have to deal with cramped spaces, passengers, air marshals, turbulence, and a bunch of other hassles. The act is more fun in theory than in practice. But we suppose if you’re Jeremih and have a private G6 then you could probably make it work and J. Cole has a nice verse and name-drops Akinyele. Complex reports that the track was to originally feature a verse from Chance the Rapper but ultimately went with the North Carolina-bred J. Cole.

Artist Advice: Ways To Promote Your Music Online Without Social Media

online-resources

When it comes to promoting your own music, there are a lot more options today than there were even a couple years ago, thanks almost entirely to the Internet. We posted an article a little while back on the do’s and don’t’s of social media promotion, and it’s true that social media can provide some of the most effective ways to promote your sound. But in this post we’ll take a quick look at 5 ways to promote your music online without the use of traditional social media apps and sites.

Soundcloud1
1. Use Soundcloud
It’s probably the most obvious suggestion to an independent artist, but it’s one that just can’t be ignored. Soundcloud has become an enormous service for new artists and music fans alike, and failing to upload your sounds there leaves you at a disadvantage. Don’t just rely on Soundcloud’s own site though – you can also use the service to play live tracks for free on your own artist website, letting any visitors hear your sound. It goes a long way to offer some listening for free.

LastFM1
2. Upload Sounds To Last FM
This is just one more way to get your sound out there on a massive listening service. There are a few added bonuses though. For one thing, the royalties program at Last FM gives you a bit of cash as people listen to your music; additionally, the service has a Pandora-like “discovery” tool that can make your sounds come up when people listen to something similar.

3. Be Accessible
If you have an artist website (and let’s face it, you should), try to be accessible. Provide an email address for fans to reach out to you, and answer emails. You can even look into conducting live chats once your audience broadens a bit. You won’t be able to keep it up if you make it big, but being personable and accessible gives you appeal and makes you memorable.

4. Contact Entertainment Webmasters
This one’s a long shot, but remember there’s never any harm in asking. Betfair’s Bingo site is one example of what we’re talking about here. At this site, users gamble real money not just on bingo, but on a variety of casino games – poker, blackjack, you name it. Essentially, they’re games that can be played with soundtracks! Again, this one’s always a long shot – but reaching out to arcade and entertainment sites to see if they’ll host your music isn’t a bad idea.

Spotify1
5. Get Your Music On Spotify
Before you can make it to this step you need to make sure you have your music registered with BMI. Spotify essentially gives you the same benefit as Last FM – it’s purely for exposure, and once you’re up you won’t have much control over marketing or outreach. But the general idea is, there are about a dozen solid services where new artists can upload music, and there’s just no sense in ignoring any of them!

We love to help out a give artist advice. Even though this article is stating how to promote your music online without social media, but we highly recommend social media for helping to spread the word on your music. Here are a couple other advice articles that can really benefit you and your career.

861045_617988424882551_626560773_oPlanetcoffeebean 2 is Eric Biddines fifth project. The Palm Beach County artist has been progressing with his career in music and the Planetcoffeebean brand. The 12 track project is a really dope album. Eric Biddines provides a Southern Hospitality in his music. You feel like he’s telling you some ol’ folk tales but they’re actually from current times. Traveling back there with his track Railroads Down/Unfinished. Dealing with some Bad Broads, dealing with Zero Population, and enjoying a damn good cup of coffee.

The project definitely rides out and it’s a great listen. My favorite tracks off Planetcoffeebean 2 are Zero Population, Railroads Down/Unfinished, Coffee Cup, Bad Broads, Lay in you, and 2’s and 4’s.

The latest music video from Eric Biddines is BAD BROADS. The video plays out exactly the title. Eric Biddines got some “Bad Broads All Over Me” Even though he got someone at home. In this case Eric is a ladies man. He gets put into these situations that he can’t help himself but to get into some trouble.

If you’re really feeling Eric Biddines’ music as much as I do you should definitely download Planetcoffeebean 2 on iTunes and listen to it like crazy on Spotify! I already added some of his songs on my playlist. Support the artist.
